Manas National Park located at the base of foothills of the Bhutan-Himalaya border in the beautiful city of Assam is renowned for its eccentrically pleasing biodiversity and landscape. It is one of the earliest reserves to be incorporated under Project Tiger in 1973. It has also been listed as a World Heritage Site in 1985 by UNESCO.

Manas National Park has derived its name from the "Manas" river which is a major tributary of the river Brahmaputra. The gleaming water of Manas river has a reflecting bluish tinge essence brooding intricately over the heavenly wilderness of the park. Manas National Park is not merely renowned for its picturesque vista and natural surroundings. This pleasing scenery includes a range of forested hills, alluvial grasslands, and tropical evergreen forests.

The Manas National Park is distinguished for providing a home for rare and endangered aboriginal life. It is a shelter to India's second-largest population of tigers. It provides an abode to 22 of India's most endangered species of mammals. As a whole, we can find nearly 60 mammal species, 42 reptile species, 17 species of amphibians, and more than 475 species of birds. Important wild fauna includes Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Wild Pig, Wild Buffalo, Great one-horned Rhino, and many other species. The Wild Buffalo population here is most probably a pure strain of this species to be found in India.
